International Financial Litigation Briefing

This informal briefing will feature a review of recent high-profile shareholder victories, as well as several ongoing and upcoming financial litigation cases:

Moderator Simon Cullingworth is Director of Legal Analytics at Punter Southall Analytics Limited, part of the Punter Southall Group. Simon, formerly a litigation partner in a leading London Solicitors firm and latterly in a global disputes and investigations law firm, has over 30 years of litigation experience in the world’s major on and off shore financial centres. He works as part of the damages quantum analytics team and the class/group action claimant book building team at Punter Southall Analytics, partnering with leading class/group investor action lawyers and with litigation funders worldwide.

Featured Speakers

Mr. Eisenhofer is a world renowned advocate for institutional investors. He has been counsel in more multi-hundredmillion dollar cases than any other securities litigator. Internationally, Mr. Eisenhofer has organised cases on behalf of investors leading to substantial recoveries, including the $1.3 billion settlement with Fortis in the Netherlands, the $1 billion recovery against Royal Bank of Scotland in the United Kingdom, and the historic $450 million pan-European settlement in the Royal Dutch Shell case in the Netherlands.

Olav Haazen’s  areas of practise include cross-border securities fraud and antitrust litigation. He has significant experience representing foreign and domestic plaintiffs in a variety of antitrust and fraud actions. Most recently, he successfully represented a class of Fortis investors for whom he helped negotiate a record-high $1.3 billion settlementof all investment fraud claims in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Robert Eisler leads G&E’s antitrust practice and is experienced in numerous industries, including pharmaceuticals, paper products, construction materials, industrial chemicals, processed foods, municipal securities, and consumer goods. Mr. Eisler has played major roles in a number of prominent antitrust cases, and has significant experience litigating antitrust matters in the U.K., including cases concerning cartels in industries such as air cargo services, air passenger services, automotive glass, and pharmaceuticals.

Guus Warringa has worked to protect the interests of institutional investors for several decades.  Prior to joining G&E in 2015, Mr. Warringa served as General Counsel for APG N.V. – one of the world’s leading institutional investors with more than €417 billion of pension funds’ assets. During his tenure at APG, Mr. Warringa was instrumental in campaigning against the adverse consequences for pension funds of the financial transaction tax and the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) on behalf the European pension fund sector.
